Nonprofit journalism groups are gearing up with flood of donations

Since the presidential election, nonprofit news organizations have seen a massive increase in donations: The Center for Public Integrity has had a 70 percent increase in individual donations; the Marshall Project is up 20 percent, and in just the post-election period alone, ProPublica surpassed the total amount raised from small donors in all of 2015. “A lot of people have felt the need since the election to take some civic action,” explains ProPublica President Richard Tofel. “One of the forms that can take is contributing money to places you think can make a difference in our civic life.”
