Since 2014, Media Impact Funders has been showcasing the work of producers dedicated to creating documentaries in the public interest through our annual Media Impact Festival. Last year, we celebrated the power of interactive technologies to deepen the relationship between news and documentary projects and their audiences. Our 2016 selections—celebrated at our annual Media Impact Forum—span a range of interactive techniques, participatory reporting, physical installations, and personalized digital experiences.
Through a partnership with OVEE, an online cinematic social visual experience created by ITVS, we’ll conduct interviews with Margaux Missika, producer of the interactive participative documentary Do Not Track, and Molly Eagan, vice president, planned parenthood patient and employee experience at Planned Parenthood Federation of America, producer of the virtual reality experience Across The Line. We’ll demo the projects so you can experience the innovative ways these interactive technologies impact society, and engage in an online chat with all of you.
Learn about the goals, lessons learned and outcomes in the case studies for both projects.
And learn more about the projects here:

  • Across The Line — An immersive virtual reality experience that puts the audience on the scene as anti-abortion extremists try to intimidate patients who seeks sexual and reproductive health care.
  • Do Not Track — A personalized web series about privacy and the web economy.

Watch the highlights from our first Documenting Impact discussion featuring the 2016 honorees: The Counted, Hollow & Question Bridge.
We hope you’ll join us for this thought-provoking online event and participate in our live conversation.
