Across the country, communities are realizing the urgent need for local news. New models for journalism are emerging, and more philanthropic dollars are starting to flow into local news as a way to keep democracy strong.

There’s no better place to dive into the heart of this movement than the 2020 Knight Media Forum, this February in Miami. For 12 years, Knight Foundation has been bringing together leaders in philanthropy, media and technology dedicated to meeting the information needs of communities in a democracy. The forum is where community leaders and media innovators learn what’s working, what’s not and how to invest money and effort in ways that have the most impact for local communities.

Action has never been more important. Local newspapers are collapsing or shrinking to skeletons of their former selves, leaving people without the trusted information that communities need to function in a democracy. There is hope amid the crisis, as media innovators and funders from Salt Lake City to Chicago and Detroit are finding new ways to foster informed and engaged communities.

Come join the Knight foundation Feb. 24–26, 2020, in Miami. The Knight Media Forum will be oriented towards action in our cities, and we expect you to leave with:

  • The knowledge you need to address cutting-edge issues and major trends in local news, information and technology;
  • Practical tools and replicable ideas; and
  • New partners and relationships to execute projects.

The forum is designed for foundation presidents, their board members and executive staff, in addition to senior level community and media leaders.  With support from Knight Foundation, there is no fee for the forum.  Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis until the seminar is full. Knight’s funding also makes possible a reduced hotel room rate of $339 per night for forum attendees.

Philanthropy alone cannot solve this problem. But together, we can have a lasting impact on one of the most pressing issues of our time.
