Sala del Cambio at the Hotel Brufani

This is a funder-only gathering.

Are you a funder attending the 2025 International Journalism Festival in Perugia, Italy? If so, join us Friday, April 11, at the Sala del Cambio, Hotel Brufani, in Perugia. The gathering runs from 8-10:30 a.m. (local time), featuring a discussion from 8:30–9:15 a.m., followed by a facilitated discussion on funders’ priorities, and networking before and after.

Securing Journalism’s Future in a Funding Crisis
Government funding, once a cornerstone of support for news organizations and the vital intermediaries that connect information to the public, is rapidly drying up. This session confronts the challenges posed by reduced government funding for journalism, including the potential collapse of intermediary organizations and the resulting impact on operational capacity across the field.
These aren’t hypothetical threats; they’re our new reality.
Is this a wake-up call for funders to act more decisively and collaboratively? We’ll take some time to discuss possible solutions and what philanthropy can do — and arguably must do — to sustain and safeguard essential information channels. Join us for an urgent discussion on the immediate and long-term strategies necessary to respond to this crisis and protect the future of journalism.
Speakers:
