What is the International Journalism Festival (IJF)?
The biggest annual media event in Europe. The 2022 festival had 252 sessions and 682 speakers in the 5-day programme.
When and where does IJF take place?
Every April in Perugia, Italy. All IJF venues are situated in the stunning setting of the historic town centre of Perugia. The next festival (the seventeenth edition) will take place from Wednesday 19 to Sunday 23 April 2023. Please note that the English-language part of the festival programme will be concentrated on Thursday 20, Friday 21 and Saturday 22 April. On Wednesday 19 and Sunday 23 April there will be only Italian-language events.
I want to attend IJF; what must I do?
Nothing. Just come to Perugia and enjoy the festival. All IJF sessions are free entry for all attendees, without tickets and without registration.

To address the ongoing challenges facing independent journalism, this session will explore how philanthropic funders have expanded the spectrum of capital available to support high-quality media as a public good. The discussion will explore questions such as: “Is it possible to balance financial returns with the social good that comes from safeguarding a robust and independent media ecosystem? Or is the entire premise a mirage, destined to disappoint as it creates unrealistic expectations of commercial viability in places hostile to media pluralism?” What are the differences and similarities across different political and economic systems, in the United States, in Europe and elsewhere around the world?
