Getting Real is a biennial conference on documentary media.
This conference attracts thousands of filmmakers and industry professionals. It is the only gathering of its kind in North America. All Getting Real activities for 2020 will be digital. We hope that we will be able to convene in-person at some point in 2021 with a full Getting Real conference. But until then, let us come together online as members of a documentary ecosystem to learn from, challenge, support and inspire one another.
From Tuesday, September 29 through Saturday, October 3, 2020 we will offer a free digital 5-day mini-conference.
- Three of the five days will include common public programs—a mix of keynotes, conversations, workshops, and panels. There will be approximately three sessions per day, none of which will overlap or conflict with each other.
- Two of the days will be dedicated to convenings of various film groups and collectives, along with regional and global breakout sessions.
In this time of social distancing and virtual connection, we aim to help people build relationships, find community, and make time for moments of joy throughout our five days together.
